Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks Cancelled.

Azealia Banks will be performing at the Radio 1 Hackney Weekender and Reading & Leeds Festivals this Summer, but has unfortunately had to cancel her remaining UK festival appearances due to recording commitments. Her October UK headline tour will still go ahead as scheduled.

Four years ago we booked Yorkshire hardcore heroes Pulled Apart By Horses to play at Rough Beats because we just knew they were destined for greatness. Well, they certainly didn’t disappoint...

Since that great day in 2008 they’ve become Muse’s favourite support act and have released two studio albums, most recently the electrifying ‘Tough Love’, created by Foo Fighter producer Gil Norton. Now victorious, they’re back to thrill you all again at Rough Beats.

National radio loves them, their fans love them and we love them - now you will too. Remember to secure any loose items before their explosive set!

With 20 years of award-winning albums and ‘stuff of legend’ festival performances - Super Furry Animals front-man Gruff Rhys certainly knows how to amaze an audience.

The Welsh hero has a long CV of blowing the minds of crowds, by creating psychedelic songs with lyrics about hamsters, druids and petrol cans! But what his songs do to twist your logic - they will then soothe with their medicinal melodies.

After his much-acclaimed 2011 solo album ‘’Hotel Shampoo’, Gruff’s prolific output seems to know no boundaries. And now it’s your chance to witness in-person, the near-mythical magic of this beloved Welsh songwriter and performer.

What happens when you lock four musicians in a room for three years? Well you get Django Django’s stunningly eclectic self-titled debut album.

What started as a friendship in an Edinburgh school has now morphed via east-London bedrooms and clubs into a synth/ guitar pop juggernaut that’s amazing critics and audiences alike.

They’re new, they’re exciting and these guys are all over Radio One & Six at the moment with the contagious single ‘Default’.

But this is just the beginning - Django Django are strongly tipped to be one of the ‘talked about new bands of 2012’ - so don’t waste time - fall in love with them at Rough Beats.

Mahala Rai Banda are a face-slap of Balkan beats from Bucharest....a supergroup of Romanian folk-pop...a living-breathing party animal.

Formed in the suburbs in 2004, they drag traditional folk instruments like violins and trumpets kicking, screaming and dancing into the 21st century.

These guys are half-genius, half-rascal instrumentalists guaranteed to stir up any occasion. So imagine you’re at the hottest local party in Bucharest - because Mahala Rai Banda’s live performances have a reputation for getting out of hand and turning simple ‘good times’ into something much, much wilder...

Rise Kagona was the founder and lead guitarist of legendary Zimbabwean group The Bhundu Boys. The Bhundu Boys were known as ambassadors of African Music and were one of the first African groups to tour the world.

In the mid ‘80s, Rise, along with the original Bhundu Boys, mixed Zimbabwean styles with rhumba influences from the Congo, and labelled their fast paced music ‘Jit Jive’.

They were a ground-breaking force in African music, paving the way for more artists to be successful in Europe and the US. They enjoyed fantastic success - with international hits & stadium tours - and personal tragedy in equal measure. Their story is as compelling as their accomplishments are great and music infectious.

Quirky & rare individuality have gained this artist support across the dance music board, with Carl Cox & deadmau5 as examples of the wide spectrum of talent embracing his idiosyncratic sound, rooted in quality house music.

Nelski has carefully developed an imaginative show that’s been crafted into a sharp, interesting and engaging live performance. His musical ethos of “it's about the here and now” is the perfect foundation for an artist that does just that, and who no doubt will be on top form in delivering a cracking set for Rough Beats 2012!

Bursting with energy, and due to a phenomenal popular demand, BBC 6 Music's Craig Charles brings his Funk and Soul show to Rough Beats for the second year running. Yes, after a blistering set closing the festival in 2011, the legendary actor, host and broadcaster - also one of the UK’s best loved Funk and Soul DJs of course - will be back! Broadcasting for 10 years on BBC 6 Music Craig has gone from strength to strength.

“When BBC 6Music asked me to do a radio show I only had one condition, it has to be a funk & soul show otherwise I wasn’t interested” And so the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show came to being right at the very start of 6Music, way back in March 2002.
